Self-portraits

Children in Miss Erin's class at Columbian Early Childhood Center in La Junta recently created self-portraits.  Miss Erin  walked the children through while she created her own self-portrait, showing children she used different shapes to create body parts.

Children then drew their own self-portraits after looking at themselves in the mirror and noticing different features about themselves. Not only were children working on motor skills by drawing, they also worked on listening skills and learned about following step-by-step instructions.

Earlier in the year, as part of a social/emotional study related to classroom rules, children created potato heads. Children learned about listening ears, looking eyes, quiet inside voices, friendly/helpful hands and walking feet. This activity also allowed children to work with scissors.
