Don't forget to check out the Open House Transition Night at La Junta Primary School tonight from 4:30-6:00 p.m. This is open to all children that have registered for Kindergarten at LJ Primary School. We hope you can stop by and join in the scavenger hunt!

La Junta CDS wrapped up a fun week celebrating the Week of the Young Child with an art show on Thursday, April 6th. Children from Head Start and Early Head Start displayed their work in the gym for families and the community to view. Work Together Wednesday @ La Junta CDS: We had the pleasure of hosting members and leaders of our community as special guests in classrooms today! Shirley Perea, former Education Manager for CDS, provided an art activity for the kids. City Council Members Paul Velasquez, Chandra Ochoa, and Elaine McIntyre, Otero College President Dr. Alvarez, and Otero County Economic Development & Special Project Manager Danelle Berg, were guest readers for classrooms. Thank you for sharing your time with us today!

Art Walk! Thursday, April 6, 2023. Join us in celebrating and supporting our young artists! Children from Head Start and Early Head Start in La Junta will have their artwork displayed in the gym for all to see. Open to the community from 4-6 p.m.
Tasty Tuesday @ La Junta CDS. We had another great day celebrating Week of the Young Child! Chef Travis Masar spent the day participating in our COWP cooking activity, reading books, and answering interview questions from the children. Travis is a LJHS graduate and has owned Pig and Tiger in Boulder, CO since fall of 2020. A big thanks to him for spending the day with us!
We also celebrated the men in our program with a Father Engagement family night. Pizza was donated from Dominos and Little Caesar's. Families played BINGO and then we had a great panel of men from our community share their experiences in fatherhood and give words of wisdom to our families. Thank you to Max Cordova, Deputy Chief Scott Copley, Jake Martinez, and Mayor Joe Ayala for spending the evening with us!
Music Monday @ La Junta CDS - what a great start to the Week of the Young Child celebrations! Mayor Joe Ayala read and signed a Week of the Young Child proclamation, Gianna Ayala beautifully sang two songs from the summer production of Moana, Sarah Mahoney's Synchronicity Dance performed a piece from the Crown production, and the Koshare's performed two of their popular dances. Thank you to those mentioned above for a fun and successful day for our children!
